Top Health Myths
Health awareness has indeed been something that has taken the world by storm lately and most people have been sensitive with regards to food intake and daily exercise to ensure their overall health competency.
While there are plenty of health myths circling around the world today here are some with some of the better known health myths:
- Lumps in breasts indicate the presence of cancer. Women would usually panic once they feel something around their breast area. This common occurrence has been a trademark since breast cancer has been immediately identified when something grows abnormally in women’s breasts. While lymph nodes are known to be signs of possible cancer indicators, it is still best to refer them to physicians for evaluation. Until such examination has been done, breast cancer should not be immediately associated with these said appearing nodes.
- Bananas make you fat. Bananas are actually good substitutes for people who need to be on the go and would want to have something satiable in their stomach. Known to be rich in protein, bananas are good for the body since we all know of the essential benefits that fruits provide us.
- A person can skip breakfast. Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. It is where people get their initial energy to go through the day based on rigorous fieldwork and mindset. Not only is this meal good for burning calories and stuff but the brain needs energy as well to be able to function effectively.
- Slow metabolism of the body makes people overweight. The metabolism of a body is known to circulate the fats and make it faster for people to burn and get rid of them. However, as age increases, it is a fact that metabolism slows down. But this should not be used as an excuse for being overweight since people can still have diets and regular exercise to bring down their weight to the ideal ones for them.
- A busy schedule is an excuse for not having exercise. Anyone can make time for workouts and exercise if he or she is really inclined to. It’s just about fixing a person’s daily itinerary and schedule.
- Sun Tan lotion protects the skin from harmful rays. While suntan lotion can act as a covering, it is not totally a protection against harmful rays of the sun. There are bound to be some ultra-violet rays that will still pass through but to a lesser degree.
- Pimples are caused by bad hygiene. The development of acne and facial bacteria usually stems from the surroundings and pollution. While improper hygiene may be an issue, they develop more from the environmental attributes of the area they are in.
- Anybody can cope up with stress. Stress can come from mere thinking and not only physical activities. While some have a good way of handling most of them, it does not always follow that a person can handle them without assistance from medicine or relaxing outlets.
- Carrots can improve eyesight. Carrots have the necessary vitamins to aid the vision of people but it does not follow that poor vision can be improved by eating carrots.
- Stretching is not necessary. In strenuous activities that require the bone and muscle movement of people, it would be best to stretch properly to avoid injuries and muscle stiffness. Stretching is like warming up the muscles to avoid them from being traumatized from instant impact of any activity a person may engage in.
